There are pros and cons to each kind of flooring, here is a list of the good and not as good you can anticipate from laminate flooring.

Pros

• Laminate flooring installation costs an average 50% less than hardwood floors.
• Laminate floors are typically designed to resemble real hardwood floors, but are also available in stone, and tile.

• Does not require maintenance such as wax or polishing.
• Laminate flooring is resilient to scratching, and is ideal for anyone with children or pets.

• Extremely impervious to the fading effects of sunlight with built-in UV protection.

Cons

• Laminate flooring is tough but can scratch, although only dragging heavy objects across it is likely to do so.

• Laminate floors can be noisy to walk on, but special padding is available to reduce noise
• Does not last as long as hardwood floors, with a typical lifespan of 15-30 years

For laminate flooring, the pros do seem to outweigh the cons, but really the choice comes down to personal preference. While laminate floors are less expensive and more durable, they do not have the same aesthetics as a genuine hardwood floor. A great deal of homes are opting to go with laminate flooring however because the price cannot be beat and it still looks great.
